KUALA LUMPUR, 9 January 2015: The GATSBY 8th Dance Competition has outdone those of the previous years. It has gained a wider audience and presented some of the finest street dance performances in Malaysia.

This is because there were no longer any categories this year. Students and non-students alike between 15-25 years old worked together to create breathtaking performances. With so many wonderful talents in the GATSBY 8th Dance Competition, it was very difficult to choose a champion. That’s why the judge’s decisions were also complemented by audience votes.

And today, at the Sunway Pyramid Ice Rink, the Malaysia Finals were held with the RJVN crew becoming the champions. Their performance left the audience awestruck: it was a perfect stage adaptation of their dynamic audition video. The five talented members of RJVN walked away with a RM2,000 cash prize, a GATSBY 8th Dance Competition Trophy, a set of Pioneer Headphones, MANDOM products and an all-expenses paid trip to participate in the GATSBY 8th Dance Competition Asia Grand Finals in Tokyo, Japan.

At the Asia Grand Finals, RJVN will compete alongside dancers from other countries including Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, Philippines and Japan. The Asia Grand Finals will take place on the 5th of March 2016, so stay tuned to this website or our official Facebook page for reports and updates. Coming in at 2nd place in the Malaysia Finals are the ODD SIM troupe. Their energetic performance was a powerful statement for the agility, flexibility and expressive potential of the human body. These poets of movement walked away with a RM1,000 cash prize, GATSBY 8th Dance Competition Trophy, a set of Pioneer Headphones and Mandom Products. And in 3rd place, we have KIM SUPERBISM, a solo performer who has made the competition a true challenge for everyone. It was obvious that dancing is in his blood. He walks away today with a RM500 cash prize, a set of Pioneer Headphones and MANDOM products.

But the GATSBY 8th Dance Competition would not have such an energetic vibe fueled by breathtaking talents if it wasn’t for the judges. They were all present today: ALEX POPPIN’ REX, LEGO SAM, DANNY LEE and IBUKI IMATA (JAPAN) – Alex, Sam and Danny are veterans of the Malaysian Street Dance scene, while Ibuki Imata has over a decade of experience as a professional dancer and she is also a well-known presence in the Japanese scene. Her international credentials are solid too. Their introduction performances today were statements of professional brilliance.

Stay tuned for the GATSBY 8th Dance Competition Asia Grand Finals on the 5th of March 2016 in Tokyo, Japan. Malaysia has always been a strong contender on the international stage, developing talents such as ALEX POPPIN’ REX himself (GATSBY 2nd Dance Competition Winner). If RJVN becomes the champion of the Asia Grand Finals, they will walk away with a 500,000 yen cash prize, a GATSBY 8th Dance Competition Asia Grand Finals Trophy, MANDOM Products and other great rewards.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed, that Malaysia will blaze a trail of street-dancing glory across Asia!
