KUALA LUMPUR, 10 January 2015: The annual GATSBY 7th Dance Competition saw student and non-student dancers competing for the best dancer titles for each category, successfully crowning Vanity Crew, a trio of young women from Kuching, Sarawak, as the winners of the Closed Category for Student Dancers. Awe-inspiring and eye-catching performance won these young women the crown this year, after much trials and errors we have witnessed from them in past competitions.

Vanity Crew, the winner of the Closed Category of the GATSBY 7th Dance Competition Malaysia Finals, brought home a grand prize of RM2000, a trophy, a STEEZ Audio System as well as an all-expense paid trip to Tokyo, Japan, where they would compete in the Asia Grand Final alongside other winners from countries officially participating in this exceptional dance event, such as Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, for the title of the Best Student Dancer in Asia. The 1st Runner-up, Lingo-twin, won RM1,500, bringing home a trophy, goodie bags courtesy of Mandom as well as a pair of Pioneer Headphones worth RM199. The 2nd Runner-up, ShakeLoveBoom, won RM500, bringing home a trophy, goodie bags courtesy of Mandom as well as a pair of headphones worth RM110.

Entries were once again booming this year as the competition extended to allow participation from the non-student dancers in a special category called the Open Category, where shortlisted dancers compete in a 1vs1 showdown amongst a total of 16 dancers. Champion of the Open Category, Jayden Koi, brought home RM1,500, a trophy, a pair of Pioneer headphones worth RM169 as well as goodie bags from Mandom. The 1st Runner-up, Nic Tan, brought home RM800, a trophy, a pair of Pioneer headphones worth RM110 as well as goodie bags from Mandom.

It goes without saying that Malaysia has been a strong fighter in the GATSBY Asia Grand Final, kicking it off with Rebounce Crew when they won the Styling Prize in the fourth season, while Jackson Chua and Alex of Poppin' Rex took home the Greatest GATSBY Award 2010-2011 and 2009-2010 respectively in the Asia Grand Final.

It is a new frontier for the country as this is the first time an all-women trio has ever stepped up onto the Asia Grand Final podium, representing Malaysia at its best. The rare opportunity for the trio to witness the culture and be at the forefront of exchanging their deeply rooted interest in dancing with the local dance community will be an invaluable lifetime experience. GATSBY will also be offering them a brand new image makeover, but much more than this would be the rare chance for them to perform on a world stage, broadcasted live on Ustream worldwide. The grand prize at the Asia Grand Final will reward its winner a rare opportunity to partake in a fully paid dance exchange tour where they could visit any of the nine participating countries to experience a totally immersive and new dance culture, right here in Asia!

This time, the panel of judges consisted of the proud owner of the FreakZ Dance Academy Jackson 'Boogie J', dancer and choreographer Dennis Yin, past champion of the GATSBY Dance Competition Alex Poppin' Rex as well as FISHBOY, Japan's leading dance expert.
